Zrinko Novosel, PhD candidate
He was born in 1989 in Zagreb, where he attended elementary school and the gymnasium. At the Centre for Croatian Studies of University of Zagreb he obtained a bachelor’s degree in history in 2011, and graduated in 2014 at the same department. During his studies he is a member of the history students’ organization “Ivan Lučić-Lucius” and is one of the editors of its periodical and editor-in-chief of serial publication Biblioteka Dies Historiae. In the fall of 2014 he enrolled for the History department at the Central European University, where he graduated in 2015. From April 2016 to March 2017 he was employed at the Croatian Institute for History through the program of professional training as a member of the project “From Protomodernization to Modernization of Croatia’s School System.” Within the project he is assisting in publishing source material, expanding databases and is one of the contributors to the international conference Being a Student in the Habsburg Monarchy (Zagreb, May 18 – 19, 2017). His primary research interests are intellectual history and memoir literature of the ‘long’ 19th century.
Within the project, he will examine the influences of European inflow of ideas and the reception of certain ideas within the Croatian intellectual elite, primarily with the professors engaged at the Royal Academy of Science in Zagreb. Meanwhile, he will compare their role in Croatia with the roles that university professors had in Hungary, Austrian and Czech lands. The research will be conducted on the archival material and available works by professors, especially textbooks.
