Štefka Batinić, PhD
She was born in 1961. She graduated in 1988. from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, where she also received doctoral degree in 2014 with topic „Historical development and reception of the reform pedagogy in Croatia“. Since 1994 she has been working in the Croatian School Museum, and since 2017 she has been the director of the Museum. As a scholar of the Austrian cultural forum, in 1997 she spent two months in Vienna in the International institute for children’s literature and research of reading. She is an external associate professor at the Faculty of Teacher Education, University of Zagreb (from 2007 to 2016) and at the Department of pedagogy on the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. The main field of her scientific interest is history of pedagogy and education and history of childhood. She is the main editor of the scientific journal Anali za povijest odgoja (Annals for the history of education). She is the author of five exhibitions with catalogues – independently and as co-author. She participated on conferences in Croatia and abroad, and published several scientific and professional papers.
She will examine the influences coming from distinguished European pedagogues which affected the development of pedagogy in Croatia from the Enlightenment period until the beginning of the First World War, especially the reception of Johann Friedrich Herbart’s pedagogy in Croatia, and creative adoption of the ideas of European reform pedagogy in Croatia at the beginning of the 20th century.
