
Marijan Šabić, PhD
He was born in 1974 in Slavonski Brod. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Comparative literature and Bohemistics (1998), MA degree in Croatian Studies (2001) and PhD degree in Slavic Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. The title of his PhD dissertation is “Czech literature and culture in Croatian literary journals of 19th Century”. He also finished BA in Librarianship at the same faculty. From September 1999 to May 2003 he worked as a librarian in primary school in Slavonski Brod, and from June 2003 to November 2007 he was librarian at the Croatian Institute of History – Department for the History of Slavonia, Srijem and Baranja. From December 2007 to November 2017 he was employed as a Research Fellow at the same Department, and now he works there as an Expert Adviser. 2008 – 2011 he was teaching Slovak literature at the Department of West Slavic Languages and Literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. He has scientific degrees in Philology (Senior Scientific Associate, 2012) and in interdisciplinary field of Croatology (Research Associate, 2016). In 2007 he was team member of the project Slavonia, Syrmia and Baranya 1860-1945: Politics, Society, Culture, and from December 2007 to 2013 he was Postdoctoral researcher in the project Shaping of Croatian Cultural and Social Identity 1900-1990. From 2008 he is a member of editorial bord and secretary of historical journal Scrinia Slavonica.
On the case-studies of connections of distinguished Croatian intellectuals with the Czech and Slovak milieu, he will examine the Czech-Croatian and Slovak-Croatian cultural and literary transfers in the 19th century. Special attention will be given to the exchange of ideas between Czech, Slovak and Croatian intellectuals in the field of middle and high education, publication of glagolitic monuments and linguistic questions.
